Club Activities
Our philanthropic work covers a wide range of interests. For organizational purposes, we function in six main departments as established by the GFWC. They are - Arts, Conservation, Education, Home Life, International Affairs, and Public Affairs. Although our federation gives our club the tools and information to use as a guide, it is our choice to determine the areas that best fit the needs of our community and the interests of our members. Arts Join us as we use the arts to reach and help "at risk" kids. Share and showcase your talents with arts and crafts workshops and contests. Support women in the arts and participate in community art events. Conservation Learn about energy and natural resource conservation as well as solid waste management issues. Participate in local clean-up, beautification, and conservation projects such as Jax-Pride, Adopt-A-Manatee, B.E.A.K.S., and historical preservation. Education Be informed and become involved with important education issues such as literacy, learning disabilities, and legislation issues. Promote continued lifetime learning and the development of young leaders. Work with local schools, libraries, and learning centers. Support organizations like the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Foundation (HOBY) which gives outstanding students the opportunity to attend three-day leadership training seminars in their areas. Home Life Focus on issues that impact the family such as family economics, substance abuse, and health. Special emphasis on women's health issues and disabled citizens. Assist organizations like Hacienda Girls Ranch, ROCK Camp, Canine Companions, March of Dimes and the Special Olympics. International Affairs Develop an awareness of
international events and issues. Promote
understanding and cooperation among various
international cultures. Assist women and children in
developing countries. Support groups such as UNICEF, CARE, and
Operation
SMILE. Public Affairs Become informed on issues such as crime prevention, victim's rights, and safety. Promote responsible citizenship. Work with local groups such as the Justice Coalition, the local police, the Rape Crisis Center, and Veteran's Affairs. |
